In FY09, Harmony produced 1.46 million ounces of gold, making it one of the world’s largest gold mining companies. The group’s operations are located primarily on the Witwatersrand Basin in South Africa, encompassing ten underground operations, an open-pit mine and surface operations that encompass four provinces, Gauteng, North West Province, Mpumalanga and the Free State. The Company also operates an open-pit mine in Papua New Guinea.
Harmony's operations have grown significantly since 1995, expanding from a single, lease-bound mining operation into an independent, world-class gold producer with multiple operations.
Harmony's growth strategy is focused on building a leading international gold mining company through acquisitions, the development of organic growth projects and focused exploration.
The Harmony Board of Directors takes seriously its responsibility to act in good faith, with due diligence and care, and to supervise and monitor so that good corporate governance forms an integral part of the management of the company.
The Management team has overseen a restructuring of Harmony and renewed the company’s focus in its ‘back to basics’ philosophy which had previously made Harmony globally competitive and successful.
