  • A multi-purpose sports court: this facility, built at a cost of R625 000, and developed in partnership with The Sports Trust, and local and national government departments, is located at Badirile High School, Khutsong. The facility will cater for court sports such as basketball, netball, tennis, volleyball and five-a-side soccer (futsal) as well as for wheelchair sports.
  • Refurbished and equipped science laboratories and computer centre: four laboratories at the Badirile High School were renovated, upgraded and equipped with the latest laboratory equipment while 26 computers, three printers were purchased for the school’s computer centre at a cost of R800 000.
  • Khutsong Business Centre: this community business centre, developed at a cost of R3.5 million, will be handed over to the Merafong City Local Municipality, who will manage it. This will provide accommodation for 30 small, medium and micro enterprises, including manufacturers and traders. It will also house a medical surgery.

Graham Briggs, Harmony’s chief executive officer said, “An important part of our responsibility as a corporate citizen is to facilitate the socio-economic development of the communities located in the vicinity of our operations. Having engaged with the Merafong and Khutsong communities, we identified the need for improved sports, science and computer facilities at the local high school and for a community business centre. These were causes close to our hearts, since it is vitally important that we give our young people the tools necessary to help them succeed in life, both economically and socially.”
