World Environmental Day 2023

Today Harmony celebrates World Environmental day 2023 with this year’s theme being: Solutions to plastic pollution.

Responsible and effective waste management is a priority focus area as this reduces our environmental impacts and mitigates associated liabilities. Guidelines on mineral, non-mineral and hazardous waste materials are included in our operations’ environmental management systems.

Plastic forms part of our efficient and responsible waste management, which begins from generation to handling, storage and transport as well as recycling and disposal.

Some of our initiatives include:

• collection of plastic waste which is then taken away by approved waste management contractors
• monthly recycling of plastics
• employees are issued with a “permanent plastic straw” that is attached to their key chain and used daily
• use of paper straws instead of plastic straws for breathalysers
