Target 1 is a mature, single-shaft, deep-level mine in the Free State. The gold mineralisation currently exploited is contained in a succession of Elsburg and Dreyerskuil quartz pebble conglomerate reefs. Ore mined is milled and processed at the Target plant.

The remarkable silica dust improvements at Target 1 since FY19 illustrate how Harmony’s focus on managing airborne pollutants is making our workplace healthier. We aim to apply the learnings from Target 1’s dust management success to improve compliance at all our operations.
